SPAN Welcomes EPA’s Major Actions to Manage PFAS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, April 29, the Sustainable PFAS Action Network (SPAN) released the following statement in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement of upcoming major actions to manage PFAS:

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin is responsibly establishing a path for the risk-based management of PFAS that recognizes the myriad unique properties of these compounds. The EPA’s upcoming actions mark a critical step towards strengthening American innovation and competitiveness through effective PFAS management policy. These actions can enable and accelerate continued innovation through a more effective new chemical review process and pave the way for a more practical and manageable PFAS reporting system under TSCA Section 8(a)(7),” said Sustainable PFAS Action Network (SPAN) Executive Director Kevin Fay. “SPAN recognizes that yesterday’s announcement is just the start of the administration’s work on this critical issue and looks forward to engaging the EPA to ensure that managing PFAS compounds and uses becomes more effective, resource-efficient, and supportive of critical industries. Looking ahead, a key component of this work should be increased federal leadership on essential use considerations. This will prevent overly broad and inconsistent state laws that inadvertently limit uses of PFAS compounds in applications that serve critical functions in modern society and where suitable alternatives do not exist.
